The Mount Surf Museum is New Zealand’s biggest surf museum featuring 700 surfboards on display.

This dazzling lineup of longboards and shortboards shows the evolution of New Zealand surfing from early wooden board days through the psychedelic 60s and 70s. There are handcrafted masterpieces from Kiwi pioneers like Quane and Bob Davies plus rare collectables including kneeboards and paddleboards.

The centerpiece is a collection of American surfing memorabilia –trophies, photographs, and other items that belonged to ‘Da Cat,’ Malibu legend Mickey Dora.

This unique, colourful museum is full of surfing items from posters and skateboards to books and more. Our shop stocks new and used surfboards (including old ones) accessories, souvenirs, surf art and collectables.

Mount Surf Shop
Welcome to the award-winning Mount Surf Shop, in downtown Mount Maunganui.
We’re at 96 Maunganui Road in the shopping centre – look for our retro-looking, red and silver sign.

We have the Western Bay’s biggest selection of more than 250 new and used surfboards at our downtown shop and Mount Surf Museum store. We sell top end surfboards local and imported, including Surftech, High Voltage, Sunshine, T&C and Classic Malibu.

We also have a huge range of quality accessories – from board bags to fins, wax and leashes. We stock leading clothing labels such as Rip Curl and Voodoo Doll, and a big range of shoes and jandals.

The friendly, local surf shop-type advice is free, and co-owners Redge Spiers and Dusty Waddell have decades of longboarding and surfing know-how behind them. Our full service shop (including ding repairs) is simply ‘everything surfing.’

Location:
96 Maunganui Road, near the north end of the Phoenix Shopping Centre.
